According to Wikipedia a trend is a ‘fad’, including fashion trends. A 'trendsetter' is a person who starts (or follows early on) a fashion or technology trend before most other people. There are market trends, cultural trends, political trends, real estate trends even a record label called Trends. A home remodeling trend, (we get to describe it since it isn't mentioned in Wikipedia!) is utilizing a room or adding a feature to room in your home that adds function in a new way.
As an expert in home renovations and home remodeling since 2003, Artisan Construction has seen trends come and go and then come back again. As 2013 draws to a close, (there are 11 more Fridays till the new year) we've identified 4 home remodeling trends we’re seeing right now in Kansas City.
Screened in room under the deck
The time and costs associated with adding a screened in porch to a deck can be large. This is due to the fact that a roof needs to be added as well as gutters. Adding a screened in room under the deck may cost 1/3 to ½ as much as adding a room on an existing deck. This is a great option for homeowners wanting to add outdoor living and may not need the view that a second floor screened in room may give you.
Outdoor Vent-less Fireplace
This option is an affordable fireplace option for many homeowners. This is an indoor/outdoor fireplace
that is used both from the deck of a home as well as the inside area where the fireplace has been added. Most times, that inside room will be a family room or living area. These outdoor ventless fireplaces have been in the remodeler’s inventory for a few years now but we are only now seeing it become more prominent and a trend for the Midwest area.
Wallpaper
If you've ever had to remove wallpaper from a large room, you may be throwing your arms up in disbelief but wallpaper is making a comeback. Since its major use in the 60’s and 70's, wallpaper has come a long way utilizing inkjet printing technologies to cast unlimited designs and colors for designers and homeowners alike. Unlike the early uses where the entire room was wrapped in wallpaper, trends for using wallpaper today are more geared toward it's use on a focal wall or alcove in a room.
Lighting
The trend at the end of 2013 is for more natural light. Much can be done to update the look of a house with replacing the home’s current windows with larger windows. Additional lighting can be accomplished through the use of adding skylights and task lighting to outdoor pathways, stairways and can lighting in kitchens, home offices and family room spaces.
The remodeling/renovation experts at Artisan Construction update homes and assist homeowners with making decisions about incorporating remodeling trends that add value and function to their homes. Every remodeling project they complete is done with art and innovation and an unmatched attention to detail.
