May is National Remodeling Month! When you think remodel, you may think big dollar. But that is not always the case. Well, sometimes it is but not every time! One of the best ways to start any remodeling project is with a budget. Many homeowners plan a project (at least know what room or project they would like to remodel) in advance anywhere from a few months to a few years! It is a good idea to start a any remodeling project with a budget. A budgeted guideline helps guide the contractor to recommend the best for available options for your project. You may be surprised by the ways a good contractor can save you money by offering suggestions you may not have thought about or known.
Let’s look at 4 rooms and 4 projects that can make your house look good!
As homeowners, most people spend most of their family time in the kitchen. It can be the heartbeat of a house! We cook, converse, gather our family and friends do homework, and share our days with one another over a meal prepared there. Making your kitchen look good may be on your “wish list”. One project that can make a big difference is to refinish the cabinets and replace the hardware. Depending on the number of cabinets you have, refinishing over replacing can save you thousands of dollars! A good contractor will remove the doors and hardware, sand, prime and paint the doors, and existing cabinets with good quality paint which is chip resistant. While the cabinet doors are removed, think about cutting out and adding some decorative glass to a few of the fronts. Colored or etched glass can really add a lot to the look and feel of the space. Do you have dishware that you could show off? This addition adds a lot to the look but not to the budget! Replacing the hardware with hinges that are more modern will finish the look of the cabinets and be the finishing touch to this kitchen project designed to make you house look good!
The bathroom is the first room we use in the morning. Many times, a homeowner is the only one who sees the space but that’s what makes the project even more special! It is just for you. A project that can make your house look good for the bathroom is replacing the counter tops. If you have single cabinet furniture or a large counter top running the length of your bathroom, replacing the counter top with granite, slate or Formica for a new look that will make your bathroom look good! (You might as well replace the faucets while you’re at it as well!)
The family room is usually a high traffic area with lots of foot traffic and people enjoying the space. You might watch a game with family and friends; relax in front of the TV at the end of your day. Replacing the flooring is a remodeling project that can make your family room look good. If you have carpet, consider replacing it with a hardwood floor or perhaps tile. Both of those choices are excellent for masking heavy foot traffic and the occasional spill during events where food is as important as the team playing!
Make your basement look great with a fresh coat of paint. A new paint color will completely change the look and feel of a room. Painting a room is one of the easiest ways to remodel a space as it can make the most dramatic effect. A good contractor will use high grade paint.
Remodeling projects don’t have to break the bank and you don’t need to remodel the entire room to make a big difference. The project you choose is just as important as the contractor you choose to do it. Make sure you choose someone who understands all the aspects of remodeling. Choose someone who has experience and an attention to detail. Having a good experience during your project is just as important as the project itself! Happy remodeling month!

Great ideas here! It is the little things that can make a big difference. Wood flooring makes a huge difference in a room.
