Given all the important elements of a kitchen: appliances, cabinets, flooring, sinks and lighting, the one that can really make a dramatic difference in the look and feel of your kitchen is the backsplash you choose to go along with these fundamentals. There are lots of options. You don’t want to limit yourself to the ones you see at your local home store. Go through magazines, look at photos in Houzz and HGTV.com and ask your remodeling contractor for their ideas as to what might be a good fit for the space and budget you have in mind. Some of the top kitchen backsplash ideas combine an artistic flair and a style that can lend itself to casual, country, elegant, bold or sleek and modern. Your choices are limitless!
You may decide tile is a great choice for your kitchen, due to its flexibility and range of pricing. You can get very creative not only your choice of tile but with the installation of a tile backsplash as well. Consider having the tile installed at a diagonal or in a herringbone pattern, which can add texture to your kitchen. There are several choices for the type of tile you can choose from including laser cut, glass, stone, ceramic, travertine, mirrored, large tiles, slate, custom mosaic, subway style, or specialty- shaped tile. Try a combination of a few of the tile choices such as glass and metal or glass and stone!
A metal backsplash is cut to fit the desired spaces. Metal backsplash choices include copper, bronze, and stainless steel which are clean, high end modern looks that can be great choices for a kitchen. They make clean up a breeze and resist heat. These materials are also available in tiles which may be more budget friendly than a single custom cut piece of metal.
Marble and granite backsplashes make excellent choices and can be paired with a countertop for a seamless look in a kitchen. Some choices of backsplash materials and installations may be better DIY projects than others but a marble or granite backsplash should be left to the professionals.
A Back Painted glass backsplash can be a stunning focal point for a simple kitchen or modern. The color choices are limitless and if your budget is, then this may be a good option for you! Another out of the box choice could be laminated thermoplastic panels. Be prepared: they are susceptible to heat and need to be properly applied to ensure protection.
No matter where you fall on the style and budget grid, the option for a stand out backsplash that is unique and will have the look and function you are looking can be as unique as you are!

Kitchen backsplashes are so fun! I love all the options available today! I think it is a great area to do something different. Having something that is too wild that potential buyers might shy away from is probably not good - but going out of your comfort zone might be exciting! I say go for it!
